limerick nicknames, street signs 2004

various locations, limerick city

part of EV+A 2004 imagine limerick
curated by zdenka badovinac, director moderna galerija, ljubljana

'Limerick nicknames' consists of information and nick names for local places and landmarks gathered from around Limerick City. It is the type of information that does not appear on city maps.

A series of 10 'street signs ' of a selection of these nick names were located around the city for the duration of EV+A 2004, 'Imagine Limerick'.

These signs can be seen by
clicking on the red 'hotspots' on the map or alternatively by using directional arrows.

However work will be ongoing on this project long term it is hoped to have an exhibition / manifestation in the city regarding this research into these names.

The project is driven from an interest in how nicknames for places and landmarks help map and describe the urban fabric of the city, and how maps are like editorial documents where select information is included or left out according to the maps function.
